%X The objective of this paper is to present the use of geotechnologies for flooding monitoring and damage assessment in Rio Grande do Sul state in the period of November/2009 to January/2010l. Three river basins were analyzed: Jacui, Ibicuí and Uruguai. It was created a data base in the SPRING. In this study were used 28 MODIS images to monitor the flooding and to characterize the area affected by this natural disaster. In order to do this the images were processed using the Principal Components. The SRTM data was used to create the declivity map, and the MODIS Image from November 29.2009 were used to developed the land use and cover maps from the three river basins. Additionally were considered the precipitation data in the period, land use, river flow and height and data collect from Civil Defense and AVADAN. Besides using the information from Civil Defense and AVADAN were created the maps about the economical, social, material and environmental damages. At the end of the study it was possible to identify the areas affected by flooding, to calculate the flooding area, to identify that the rice crops were the agricultural area affected most by the flooding, and to calculate the economical, social and environmental damages.
